- Standard Method : ASTM D-36 / AASHTO T-53
- For determining softening point of asphalt and tar using the ring and ball method. The test is performed in duplicate under very closely controlled conditions. Water is used as the bath medium for binder withsoftening points below 80ºC. Above this temperature glycerol is used in place of water.
