Compressometers measure deformation andstrain of concrete cylinders during compressionfor determination of modulus of elasticity. Theunits consist of two yokes mounted around thespecimen. The bottom is rigidly attached, and theupper yoke is hinged to permit pivoting. A fixed rodconnects the two. Yokes are aluminum alloy; otherparts are cadmium plated steel. A mechanical dialor digital indicator measures specimen deformation.Indicators have 0.2in (5.08mm) range and 0.0001in(.0025mm) divisions. Models with either mechanicaldial or digital indicators fit standard 4in (102mm) or6in (152mm) concrete cylinders.

Compressometer/Extensometers are similar tocompressometers, but a third center yoke attachesto the specimen to measure horizontal extension. Thisallows a combined determination of both modulusof elasticity and Poisson's ratio. A second indicatorbetween yoke segments measures the transversedeformation simultaneously. Models are available witheither mechanical dial or digital indicators to fit standard4in (102mm) or 6in (152mm) concrete cylinders
